According to multiple foreign media reports, on the morning of October 3rd local time, a Ryanair Boeing 737-800 (registration number 9H-QCB) experienced an engine fire on its right engine during takeoff taxi. All passengers on board were safely evacuated.
The aircraft was originally scheduled to operate flight FR8826 from Brindisi Airport in Italy to Turin. All 184 passengers evacuated via emergency slides, and no injuries were reported.
Brindisi Airport was closed for nearly three hours and resumed operations at 11:25 a.m. local time. An airport spokesperson stated, “A departing aircraft encountered an issue, and Brindisi Airport had to close to conduct an emergency evacuation.”
Ryanair confirmed in a statement: “Flight FR8826 from Brindisi to Turin this morning (3rd) was delayed after the crew noticed smoke outside the aircraft. Passengers were safely disembarked and returned to the terminal by bus. We apologize to all affected passengers, and a replacement aircraft was dispatched to transport them to Turin.” The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
This marks the second Ryanair incident in three days.
On October 1st local time, a Ryanair Boeing 737 MAX 8 (registration number EI-IGI) suffered four tire bursts on the rear landing gear during landing at Bergamo International Airport.
The flight, FR846, had been operating from Barcelona, Spain, to Milan’s Bergamo International Airport. Following the incident, the aircraft remained on the runway, and all 162 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated.
The airport reported that the sole runway was damaged, prompting a temporary closure. The runway sustained damage approximately 450 meters long and 1 cm deep. After the passengers were evacuated, repair work commenced, and the runway was reopened at 7:30 p.m. that evening. The aircraft remained on the tarmac.
One passenger, Longhurst, said, “You could smell the rubber in the cabin. It was terrifying.”
A Ryanair spokesperson told AeroTime: “Flight FR846 from Barcelona to Milan Bergamo (on October 1st) experienced tire issues upon landing at Milan Bergamo Airport. All passengers disembarked safely, and the aircraft is undergoing inspection and repair.”
